Israel rebuffs Biden by announcing new settlement construction

http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/3447129

By Sheera Frenkel, McClatchy Newspapers Sheera Frenkel, Mcclatchy Newspapers – Tue Mar 9, 5:58 pm ET

JERUSALEM — Hours after the arrival Tuesday of Vice President Joe Biden to help launch indirect Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, Israel announced the construction of 1,600 homes in a settlement block in mostly Arab East Jerusalem, an open rebuff that led Biden to issue a sharply worded condemnation.

"I condemn the decision by the government of Israel to advance planning for new housing units in east Jerusalem ," Biden said in a... [Read More]

What $100 can accomplish
Mar 05, 2010 - 10:54 PM - by loooooongcat
It's a slow day in a little East Texas town. The sun is beating down, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit........

On this particular day a rich tourist from back east is driving through town. He stops at the motel and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.

As soon as the man walks upstairs, the owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit. The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the... [Read More]

Obama's Renewed Focus on Jobs Could Come at Expense of Moon Mission

Quote:
President Obama is reportedly going to flatline NASA's budget when he releases his annual spending plan Monday, effectively grounding the agency's Constellation program, which oversees human spaceflight.

Houston, we have a problem.

President Obama's renewed focus on creating jobs, which he plans to lay out in his State of the Union address Wednesday night, apparently doesn't include reaching for the moon.

Obama is

STIMULUS WATCH: White House changes job-count rule
By BRETT J. BLACKLEDGE
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House has abandoned its controversial method of counting jobs under President Barack Obama's economic stimulus, making it impossible to track the number of jobs saved or created with the $787 billion in recovery money.

Despite mounting a vigorous defense of its earlier count of more than 640,000 jobs credited to the stimulus, even after numerous errors were identified, the Obama administration now is making it easier to give the stimulus credit for hiring. It's no longer about counting a job as saved... [Read More]

Evidence of Ancient Amazon Civilization Uncovered

(Jan. 8) – As a result of the deforestation of the Amazon basin, a startling discovery has been made. Hidden from view for centuries, the vast archaeological remains of an unknown, ancient civilization have been found.

A study published in Antiquity, a British archaeological journal, details how satellite imagery was used to discern the footprint of the buildings and roads of a settlement, located in what is now Brazil and believed to span a region of more than 150 miles across.

"The combination of land cleared of its rain forest for grazing and satellite survey have revealed a sophisticated pre-Columbian monument-building society in the upper Amazon basin on the... [Read More]
